The first release from the Bruichladdich's Octomore 10 series, this expression was aged for 5 years in a selection of first-fill American whiskey casks (from the likes of Jim Beam, Heaven Hill, Buffalo Trace and Jack Daniel's). Not quite as absurdly peated as previous Octomore expressions, Bruichladdich says that it's exploring "a different realm of 'softer smoke'". It's still sitting at 107PPM, mind.
Nose:Bright stone fruit sweetness, with salty smoke slowly building.
Palate:Toasted sugar leading into charred oak and dried earth, but never knocking you over with a big blast of fiery peat. Tangy mango, peach and a little hint of honey.
Finish:Waxy peels, salted caramel and clove.
