Continue Shopping2000 Singleton 18 Year Old (Special Release 2019)
Behold, a Singleton of Glen Ord bottled as part of the Diageo Special Releases 2019! Drawn from fresh charred American oak hogsheads, this 18 year old expression boasts plenty of fruit and spice aplenty. Also, as the theme of the Special Releases 2019 is 'Rare by Nature', the label features a fish staring longingly at some blackberries.
From fresh charred American oak hogsheads, this brass-gold coloured whisky is a little vague in the first few passes, slowly gaining definition with semi-ripe apple, pear and citrus peel notes. Later, biscuity malt comes to the fore. The delivery has a crisp, spicy and mildly astringent feel, with some mid-palate prickle. It’s better with water, bringing out the distillery’s sought-after orchard fruit profile.
Other reviews… Tangerines, ginger, and white pepper on the nose, with developing nutmeg. Big sweet fruit notes on the palate, with milk chocolate and caramel. Tangy citrus fruit and dark chocolate in the spicy, warming finish. (600 bottles for the U.S.) 89 points - whiskyadvocate.com, reviewed by: Gavin Smith (Winter 2019)
Nose: Orange peel and berry fruits. Post-water it's more fruity, with more orange coming through.
Palate: Warming orange with a prickle of spice. Chocolate and caramel notes. Post-water it's sweeter and smoother, and first sip is still quite warming. Still spicy, but more orange and berry fruits.
Finish: Long finish, warming taste. Drying mouth feel. Post-water still a long finish, smooth and spicy on the tongue.
